1. Our Community Philosophy
OhoLingo is built for people who want to learn languages with focus, kindness, and a bit of healthy motivation. Whether you are chatting after a lesson, climbing a leaderboard, or trading tips in a study group, we succeed when everyone feels safe enough to take risks—mispronounce a word, ask a naive question, and try again.
These guidelines set expectations for how we show up for each other. They are not a substitute for our Terms of Service or Privacy Policy, but they explain the spirit of the community we are nurturing together.
2. Be Respectful
Treat other learners and anyone representing OhoLingo with empathy and patience. Language learning is vulnerable work: people have different backgrounds, goals, and confidence levels.
- Keep feedback constructive. Critique ideas or study methods—not a person’s character.
- Assume good intent when tone is unclear, and clarify before responding in anger.
- Use inclusive language. Avoid stereotypes about countries, accents, gender, age, or ability.
- Remember that humor does not land the same for everyone; punch up, not down.
3. No Harassment or Hate Speech
We have zero tolerance for harassment, threats, bullying, or content that attacks people based on who they are. That includes slurs, dehumanizing language, graphic violence, and coordinated pile-ons.
- Do not stalk, intimidate, or repeatedly contact someone who has asked you to stop.
- Do not sexualize minors or share sexual content in community spaces.
- Do not encourage self-harm or dangerous behavior.
If you are unsure whether something crosses the line, it probably does. Choose another way to engage.
4. Keep Content Appropriate
OhoLingo is a learning environment used by a wide range of ages and contexts (including schools and workplaces). Keep posts and media suitable for that setting.
- No pornography, fetish, or gratuitously graphic content.
- No gore, cruel imagery, or shock content.
- Lesson comments and group chats should stay on-topic: language learning, culture (respectfully), and supporting peers.
5. No Spam or Self-Promotion
We love enthusiasm—we just ask you to channel it in ways that help learners rather than drowning them in noise.
- Avoid repeated posting of the same message, irrelevant links, or copy-paste outreach across threads.
- Do not use OhoLingo to run unsolicited ads, pyramid schemes, paid follower farms, or off-platform sales funnels.
- Mentoring, tutoring, or content creation are welcome when shared thoughtfully; dumping links without context is not.
6. Honest Participation Rules
Streaks, ranks, and badges only feel good when they mean something. Keep play fair so everyone can trust the leaderboard and their own progress.
- Do not use bots, scripts, or third-party tools to farm points, answers, or time-on-task.
- Do not share accounts or collude to manipulate rankings or challenges.
- One person, one honest identity: creating throwaway accounts to evade restrictions or harass others undermines the whole community.
When in doubt, play the way you would be proud to explain to a study partner face to face.
7. Respect Privacy
Learning works best when people control their own story. Respect boundaries online as you would in person.
- Do not share someone else’s private messages, email, phone number, or location without consent.
- Do not screenshot or repost private conversations from OhoLingo to shame or expose someone.
- Be thoughtful about what you reveal about yourself; others should not pressure you for personal details.
For how we handle data on our side, see our Privacy Policy.
8. Report Abuse
If you see something that breaks these guidelines, please speak up. Reporting helps us protect learners who might not feel safe posting publicly.
How to report
- Use in-app reporting wherever it is available (for example, from a message, profile, or piece of content). Include context and, if relevant, a short description of what happened.
- You can also email us at support@oholingo.com with the subject line “Community safety” and enough detail for us to investigate: approximate time, usernames involved, and screenshots if it is safe for you to share them.
False or bad-faith reports waste time and can themselves violate trust—we take that seriously too.
9. Moderation and Enforcement
Our team and automated safeguards may review content and accounts to keep OhoLingo safe. We weigh severity, intent, history, and impact. Not every decision will be perfect; we aim to be consistent and proportional.
- We may remove content, hide it from public view, or limit features while we review a report.
- We may temporarily restrict accounts during an investigation, especially when there is risk of ongoing harm.
- We do not guarantee human review of every automated flag—but reports from users are a priority signal.
10. Consequences of Violations
Depending on the situation, consequences may include:
- A warning or reminder of the rules
- Removal of specific posts, comments, or media
- Temporary limits on messaging, posting, or social features
- A suspension for a defined period
- Permanent loss of access to OhoLingo where the risk to the community is severe or repeated
Serious violations—such as hate, harassment, or sexual content involving minors—may skip straight to stronger action.
11. Appeals and Contact
If you believe we made a mistake, tell us. Briefly explain what happened and why you think the enforcement should be reconsidered. We review appeals with care; outcomes are not guaranteed, especially when safety is concerned.
Reach us anytime at support@oholingo.com. For privacy-specific questions, use the contact options listed in our Privacy Policy.
Thank you for helping make OhoLingo a place where people from every background can practice with confidence.
