What OhoLingo is, who it is for, and what happens in your first ten minutes.
OhoLingo is a Norwegian learning platform built for people who live in Norway, are moving there, or are preparing for Norskprøve.
The Learn hub has eight sections: phrase of the day, A1–B2 courses, grammar, listening with transcripts, speaking practice, vocabulary, practice exercises, and the Explore feed. Alongside it sit the progress, ranking, and saved pages.
The interface and all explanations are in English, Russian, or Ukrainian — the Norwegian material itself stays Norwegian, so you always read, hear, and repeat the original.
It is built for adults learning Norwegian for a practical reason: living or working in Norway, preparing for Norskprøve, studying, or talking with Norwegian family and friends. Explanations come in English, Russian, and Ukrainian, so newcomers — including Ukrainian and Russian speakers — can learn without going through a third language they only half know.
You create an account and go through a short onboarding: interface language, your goal (living or working in Norway, Norskprøve, studying, family and friends), your current level, the skills you want to prioritise, and a daily target between 5 and 30 minutes.
Not sure what level you are? A 7-question placement test settles it. Onboarding ends with a personal plan and your first lesson.
Signing up, onboarding, and the placement test cost nothing. Opening the lessons themselves requires a plan.
English, Russian, or Ukrainian — you choose during onboarding and can change it any time in settings. Translations, grammar notes, and interface text follow that choice. The Norwegian content stays in Norwegian.
Yes. The courses start at A1 and run to B2, and the phrase of the day, vocabulary, and listening sections all begin at beginner level. If you already know some Norwegian, the placement test puts you further along so you are not repeating what you already have.
There is no honest single answer. Your starting point, your weekly hours, and whether you use Norwegian outside the app all change the number.
Most people who practise daily start understanding everyday speech and handling simple exchanges within a few months.
Reaching B2 — the range Norskprøve tests — usually takes a year or more of steady work. OhoLingo gives you the structure, the material, and the daily rhythm; the hours are still yours to put in.

No. Creating an account, onboarding, and the placement test are free, but the lessons need a subscription and there is no free trial period. Instead of a trial we keep a genuinely low entry plan: Lite at 129 NOK per month, cancellable at any time. The marketing pages — the learning hub, guides, and phrase collections — stay free to read without an account.
Three monthly plans in Norwegian kroner: Lite at 129 NOK, Premium at 329 NOK, and Premium Plus at 429 NOK per month. There are no bundles, no setup fees, and no annual lock-in — every plan is billed monthly.
Lite (129 NOK/mo): phrase of the day, listening with transcripts, the vocabulary library, plus progress, streaks, and ranking.
Premium (329 NOK/mo): everything in Lite, plus grammar, practice exercises, the Explore feed, and the courses marked Premium.
Premium Plus (429 NOK/mo): everything in Premium, plus speaking practice with pronunciation scoring and every A1–B2 course unlocked.
Individual items inside a section can carry their own plan requirement on top; that is always shown on the item before you open it.
Take Lite if your main goal right now is a daily habit — a phrase a day, listening, and vocabulary are enough to keep momentum. Take Premium if you are studying seriously on your own and want grammar, exercises, and courses. Take Premium Plus if you need to speak: it is the only plan with pronunciation practice, and it opens the whole course library. You can move between plans later without losing your progress.
By card through Stripe, or with Vipps if you have a Norwegian phone number and bank. Both are handled by the payment provider on their own systems — OhoLingo never sees or stores your full card details. Your payments show up in the billing page inside the app, including Vipps charges.
Yes, from the billing page inside the app. Every plan is monthly: when you cancel, the subscription stops renewing and you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. You can also move up to a fuller plan or step back down whenever you like — your XP, streak, and saved items stay where they are.
Our refund policy explains what is eligible and how to ask. As a Norwegian consumer you also have a 14-day right of withdrawal (angrerett) under the Angrerettloven — but note that for digital content the right can lapse if you expressly agreed that access should start immediately and acknowledged losing it. If a charge looks wrong, contact us with the date and amount and we will look into it.

The eight Learn hub sections, how practice works, and how progress is measured.
The Learn hub holds eight sections: word and phrase of the day, A1–B2 courses, grammar, listening with transcripts, speaking practice, vocabulary, practice exercises, and the Explore feed. Outside the hub there are three more pages: progress (XP, level, streak), ranking (weekly and all-time), and saved (words, phrases, and your own notes).
Courses are organised by CEFR level from A1 to B2, and each course breaks into lessons you work through in order. Listening, speaking, practice, and Explore are organised the same way, so you pick a level first and then a specific item — you always know what difficulty you are on.
Each listening lesson pairs Norwegian audio with a transcript, sorted by CEFR level so you can stay just above your comfort zone. You can replay as often as you like and mark a lesson complete, which awards XP and counts toward your daily streak.
In speaking practice — part of Premium Plus — you say the phrase out loud into your microphone and your recording is scored against the reference answer, with a pass mark set per prompt.
A phonetic hint, a translation, and several attempts per phrase sit right next to it, so you can hear what is off and try again.
Your browser will ask for microphone permission the first time; nothing is recorded until you press record.
The vocabulary section is a browsable word catalogue with audio and translations. Anything worth keeping — a word, the phrase of the day, or a note you write yourself — goes to the saved page with one tap, and stays there for review whenever you want it.
Practice exercises are short drills, organised by CEFR level, for reinforcing what a lesson introduced. Explore is a short-form content feed — bite-sized Norwegian you can scroll through when you have five minutes and do not want a full lesson. Both are included from Premium.
Completing a lesson, listening item, or practice exercise awards XP, which raises your level and keeps your daily streak alive. The progress page shows how much XP remains to the next level; the ranking page shows where you stand against other learners for the week and all time. It is there to keep you showing up — it is not a measure of fluency.
You can set Norskprøve as your goal during onboarding and the plan is built around it, with material running up to B2 — the range the exam tests. It is not an official exam course and we cannot promise a result, but it gives you the foundation and the vocabulary to prepare on.
Phones, installing, passwords, your data, and closing your account.
Yes — OhoLingo is designed for the phone first. On mobile you get a bottom tab bar; on a larger screen the same app switches to a sidebar. Your progress syncs with your account, so you can start a lesson on your phone and finish it on a laptop.
No. OhoLingo runs in your browser, and on supported devices you can install it to your home screen so it opens like a normal app, full screen and without the browser bar. There is nothing to download from an app store.
Partly. The installed app keeps its shell cached, so it opens instantly and shows a clear offline screen instead of a browser error when your connection drops. Lesson content, audio, and anything that saves progress still need a connection.
Yes. Your choice from onboarding can be changed any time in settings, and the interface, explanations, and translations switch to English, Russian, or Ukrainian immediately. It does not affect your progress or your plan.
Use the forgot-password link on the login page. You will get an email with a secure link to set a new one. If it does not arrive, check your spam folder and confirm you are using the same address you signed up with.
Both live in settings. Account deletion is in the danger zone at the bottom of the page and asks you to type a confirmation first, since it cannot be undone. A data export can be requested from the same page, and we deliver it within 30 days as required by GDPR. Cancel any active subscription first so it does not renew.
The app runs on Vercel with authentication and the database on Supabase; traffic uses TLS in transit and provider storage encryption at rest. Payment details never touch our servers — Stripe and Vipps handle them. The privacy policy sets out what we collect and why, and the trust and security pages describe how we operate.

Write to us through the contact page. Include the email address on your account and, for billing questions, the date and amount of the charge — that is usually enough for us to resolve it in one reply rather than three.
Yes. The reviews page collects feedback from learners, and you can submit your own from the same page. Reviews are moderated before publishing, so there is a short delay between submitting and seeing yours appear.
Not yet — the plans today are for individual learners. Group and organisation offerings are on the roadmap, and we are genuinely interested in pilots. Write to us with your size, timeline, and what you need, and we will come back to you when it is ready.
No plans to. OhoLingo exists to do one language properly rather than thirty shallowly, and Norwegian is a big enough job on its own. What we will keep adding is depth: more courses, more listening, more speaking prompts.
General apps teach Norwegian with the same template they use for forty other languages, and explain it in English only. OhoLingo does one language, explains it in English, Russian, or Ukrainian, and builds around what life in Norway actually asks of you — Norskprøve, work, the kommune, everyday conversation. The best app is still the one you open daily, and many people combine tools; we would rather be the one that goes deep.
